Where is the Popliteus muscle located?

Popliteus is a small muscle arising from back the of the knee going up & inserting into the lower part of the thigh bone (femur)

What is the function of the popliteus muscle?

It is the Unlocker of the knee joint when one starts bending the knee. As the knee starts bending the Popliteus turns the leg bone (tibia) inwards so as unlock the knee to permit bending

Another secondary function of this muscle is to prevent the knee from sliding forwards, especially while walking/running downhill along with the Quadriceps muscle & the Posterior Cruciate ligament (PCL)

What is Tennis Elbow is it related to elbow arthritis?

Tennis elbow is a painful swelling of the muscle attachment on the outer aspect of the elbow. This swelling is most commonly due to the excessive workload of the muscle group which leads to soreness & pain. Whereas in arthritis the is swelling of the joint & joint surface erosion which leads to pain & this pain depends upon where is the arthritis located & may involve the entire joint

How does elbow Arthritis occur?

Elbow arthritis is most commonly seen in patients with some systemic arthritis like rheumatoid arthritis where it is either involved with other joints or might be involved solo. The most common non-systemic cause is post-traumatic arthritis which occurs due to some fracture causing damage to the joint & less commonly it is osteoarthritis which is due to age-related wear & tear of the joint

What is the treatment of Elbow Arthritis?

Since the most common cause of arthritis in the elbow is systemic arthritis treatment of the underlying disease will prevent the elbow arthritis to worsen, similarly getting the elbow fracture treated properly when the injury occurs prevents uneven joints after the injury & following arthritis

These are the two preventable causes which can completely avoid elbow arthritis 

Once arthritis has set in the changes are not reversible & the wear & tear will continue it cannot be stopped & in advanced stages, there are not many options to relieve the pain apart from Total Elbow Replacement which is a major surgery & doesn’t have the longevity like other joint replacement like Total Knee or Total Hip replacement
